DOG GROOMING IN RIVONIA

After 20 years of teaching, we believe we know the South African requirements for Dog Grooming. During this time we have trained over seven hundred students of which about one third are still in practice today, not only in South Africa but in England(5), in Australia(8), in Portugal(3), in Botswana(5), in Zimbabwe(3), in Israel(2), and one in Greece, Belgium, Canada, Mauritius, Sweden, Ghana and Kenya.

COURSES

Courses begin every two weeks, and the lessons are held on every weekday morning over a six week period. The first four weeks cover the courses syllabus and the last two weeks are practice under supervision. The last two weeks are possibly the most important as they enable the student to extend the number of breeds on which they have worked but also to practice under commercial conditions.

Lectures may be held during the course, the one covering the various equipment available in South Africa and its maintenance, and another deals with the business side of running a parlour. Each student has special requirements concerning these subjects and they may be better dealt with on a person to person basis. Parlour equipment can be purchased from Chatteronga and students enjoy special discounts for as long as they continue grooming. At least one student from the first course (1984) is still enjoying discounts.

A Certificate of competency in Dog Grooming is achieved at the end of the course.

SKILLS

Although many students build up their knowledge and speed after they leave us, this is not achieved in six weeks. "Practice makes perfect..." is particularly true of dog grooming. However we ensure that graduated students are able to supervise a parlour, set standards, organise workloads and perhaps most important of all take over if staff absent themselves.
